The Final Days... Until next year Fall

Well, our first ever "Fall" is technically over now I guess. It is the day after Thanksgiving. The Turkey is sliced and in zip lock bags in the fridge, there are pumpkin baked goods in various states of disrepair in tin foil in the fridge, clean and stacked serving ware is taking up most of the dining room table, news stories of stabbings and arrests are filling the screen courtesy of Walmart crazies, #blackfriday is trending on twitter and its time ... Time to start decorating for Christmas!

Yayah.

Since we are leaving for home next Friday we are staying all weekend at our Texan familys house, to get Christmas started. Cue a few days of holly, glitter, pine scented goods, claymation Christmas movies and the start of my new candy cane diet. I'm sure I will chat about the fun of the next few days in their own post, but for now I wanted to share some of my final pictures from Fall this year. I have had so much fun trying to "find Fall" in Houston, I feel like I have ticked a bunch of things off our US Bucket List, and learned a thing or two in the mean time. My highlights would be our first Halloween, carving my first pumpkin, trying a PSL (my blogging Cliche of choice), learning to make pumpkin bread, getting lost in a maze at a pumpkin patch, and lastly, finding some beautiful Fall leaves on our trip to Europe last week. Fall was fun.

Snap Happy - Hermann Park

One of the things we miss the most about Perth is being outside.. But right now, the temperature in Houston is fantastic. Sunday morning was just stunning!

We decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and mission it outside somewhere. We decided on Hermann Park as we just hadn't been able to explore it yet. And wow it was just so pretty.

I had quite the fail - I brought my camera and when I went to use it - realized the memory card was sitting in my lap top at home. Brilliant. But I did have my phone on me, so I managed some pics. I went exploring while Roberto hung out in the sun. What a great morning.

There is nothing quite like a cool breeze after months of humidity!

I love finding new and beautiful places! I saw turtles, fish, puppies, birds and butterflies. And it was just so refreshing for my mind to be outside and exploring.

Sometimes you just need to get lost in a park somewhere.

Snap Happy

Our weekend through the eyes of my phone.. Hope y'all had a good one!

Finding Fall in Houston - Pumpkin carving

Today I carved my first ever Jack o lantern!

I was meant to go to a pumpkin party on Friday but my ovaries were at war with the rest of my body so I was stuck in bed with a hot water bottle.

Instead - I decided today was the day!

I chose the best pumpkin at Whole Foods! His name is Harry. Reader, meet Harry.

For the carving I had no idea where to start so I skyped my Mum and she gave me advice. Her carving knowledge is limited to American movies and Pinterest. So basically it was the blind leading the blind.

I got a carving set from Whole Foods which was excellent till I broke the little sword carver thingy.

I decided to make a kitty cat pumpkin. Cos you know, why not? And I was wearing a cat t shirt so it seemed appropriate.

Mama and I chatted as I chopped, gutted and carved my pumpkin into submission. And eventually, with much worry and doubt along the pumpkin carving road, a kitty emerged from the orange mess that was Harry.

Success!

Well, kind of. I think it is kind of distinguishable as a cat, if not a cat, then a critter of some sort.

Yay! This pumpkin thing is fun.

And note to self - I should have got matches for Harry's candle.

Finding Fall in Houston - Pumpkin Patch!

Its official! I LOVE Fall. Haha I am converted, as long as it keeps cooling down! We had a scorching hot day on Saturday as we did what I would say is the most "Fall-esque" thing so far... We got lost in a corn maze - my first ever. Rob ate deep fried desserts. We had lemonade. Ate BBQ... We visited a Pumpkin Patch!

It was so much fun. Even despite it being 99% humidity. Yes, we got very sweaty. Here are some photos from the day.

Note, there are a lot of pumpkin photos. Its how they do around here.

Enjoy!

Yes, we are extremely lost.

Tiny pumpkins!

Deep fried Oreos. Yep. That's right.
