The Final Days... Until next year Fall

Well, our first ever "Fall" is technically over now I guess. It is the day after Thanksgiving. The Turkey is sliced and in zip lock bags in the fridge, there are pumpkin baked goods in various states of disrepair in tin foil in the fridge, clean and stacked serving ware is taking up most of the dining room table, news stories of stabbings and arrests are filling the screen courtesy of Walmart crazies, #blackfriday is trending on twitter and its time ... Time to start decorating for Christmas!

Yayah.

Since we are leaving for home next Friday we are staying all weekend at our Texan familys house, to get Christmas started. Cue a few days of holly, glitter, pine scented goods, claymation Christmas movies and the start of my new candy cane diet. I'm sure I will chat about the fun of the next few days in their own post, but for now I wanted to share some of my final pictures from Fall this year. I have had so much fun trying to "find Fall" in Houston, I feel like I have ticked a bunch of things off our US Bucket List, and learned a thing or two in the mean time. My highlights would be our first Halloween, carving my first pumpkin, trying a PSL (my blogging Cliche of choice), learning to make pumpkin bread, getting lost in a maze at a pumpkin patch, and lastly, finding some beautiful Fall leaves on our trip to Europe last week. Fall was fun.

Finding Fall - in Vegas?

So one of the best things about our trip to Vegas, is that the temperature was cool. This Houston heat does not play around. Like, we literally just opened our windows for the first time since April. No jokes.

But the thing is, apart from the cooler temperatures, you couldn't really tell that it was Autumn in Vegas. Because, there are only really palm trees - which obviously don't turn..

However, when we went exploring in Aria, a newer casino in the middle of the strip - we found fall. I guess they decided to bring Fall to the party people who never stepped outside. It sure was pretty.

Not All Mornings Are Created Equal... You Know?

It's a red, white and blue kind of day.

This morning we walked outside and felt the first cool breeze in months. It was bliss.

We had the best breakfast (in my opinion) that we have had since we got here.

Since it was so nice outside, we dropped our groceries home and drove into town... Explored around the lake and lay in the grass at Discovery Green. Hurrah for the slow change in seasons.. This feels like perfect right now. Sunny and warm with a breeze is pretty much brill.

Football and skyping family back home made up the rest of one of the best Houston Sundays so far.

Fall Where Are you? The PSL edition.

So in the latest chapter of my epic quest to find Fall here in Houston, I find myself again, at Whole Foods.

The blogisphere is going nuts for Fall. like, nuts. And in particular, for pumpkin spiced latte or PSL. Being a non coffee drinker and a newbie to this "Fall" phenomena, I really didn't see the appeal. But people go bat shit for it. Like, there are at least 3 PSL images on my Instagram feed daily. So I decided to investigate. And today I tried  my first ever pumpkin spiced latte (spoiler alert, it doesn't actually taste like pumpkin)... I don't know what I thought of it. It was yummy and very sweet. I didn't really taste coffee or pumpkin. Maybe that's why I liked it... 

Anyway. I feel satisfied with the experiment. And now I can join in with the PSL images. Pumpkin peer pressure is a bitch.

Also, I found that the pumpkin displays outside Whole Foods get better every weekend. Check out these bad boys! 

I have literally never seen pumpkins the that look like Apples.

Okay, admittedly I have seen grey pumpkins before.

On a very positive note, it has rained for 24 hours solid. Yay! And, there has been more lightning in the last 24 hours than I think I saw in the last four years in Perth. So that is exciting. It also means a few degrees drop in temperature today which meant my beanie and long sleeve shirt didn't seem like a completely bonkers outfit choice. #winning

So, it looks like, for the next wee while,  Fall in Houston will be at Whole Foods. See you there fellow Fall chasers.

Fall, Where are you?

So I found my first evidence of Fall happening somewhere in the world. Giant ass pumpkins at Whole Foods. Of course these pumpkins came from out of State. But I take this as a form of Fall "flare".

It's a start right?

Using the Southern Hemisphere term for Fall. Risky business.

Yes, I am officially jumping on the "pictures of pumpkins" bandwagon.

Wait.... No Fall?

So I learned a sad thing yesterday.. 

As the blogging world goes crazy for Fall, with photos of golden leaves, pumpkins and cardigans, I am sitting here sweating in Houston. A friend told me that there isn't really Fall in Houston, just a kind of humid, cloudy month or two and then one day you notice it's cooler and then it's winter. 

Bugger.

So, I have taken this as a challenge to seek out Fall (or Autumn) as we call it in Kiwi land. I am on the look out for any sign and will be letting y'all know in a series affectionately named, "Fall, where are you?".

If any of you know places in Houston that I might find evidence of Fall, please let me know. It seems that in going to need all the help I can get.
