Here are some questions I have gotten over the last year:
Are you from London?
Are you European?
Is your accent Irish?
I love your accent. Are you from Scotland?
Wow, your voice is cool, and you from Norway?
New Zealand? Wow! That's by Finland ain't it?
Put another shrimp on the Barbie mate! Oh what? You aren't Australian? Where are you from? Oh, we'll that's close enough.
Oh, New Zealand... Lord of the Rings right?
New Zealand.. Does that make you German? (I am not making this up people)
And my personal favorite...
Are you from Mississippi?
Hahahaha I hope it don't sound mean, it just cracks me up. So much variety. So far one person has guessed New Zealand. The most common guess is England and Scotland. Then Australia. I have certainly never felt so unique. Often it isn't till we are in another country that we realize how fascinated people are by it. And it is certainly entertaining!
haha that cracks me up. people say the darnest things. and also should not speak most of the time. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha I like that - I think that needs to be a quote on a picture of flowers or something. I would totally pin that shit.
DeleteI was just thinking earlier today when we were texting that I wonder if I'll even understand some things you say. Like that Irish comedian... The guy from Boondocks. Sometimes I can't understand. Also. I can assure you I am too ignorant to have guessed the correct accent unless it is a New York one.
ReplyDeleteHaha I am sure you will understand most of it, and if a little gets lost in translation thats okay :P
DeleteAccent? What accent?
ReplyDeleteLol
DeleteOh my!! I get the most random guesses too! And some times it is like kid people are disappointed when I tell them I am American! Then they are shocked that I still have an accent lol But I've learnt to accept my accent and embrace it. At least I almost never have that awkward conversation starter problem! Everyone I meet almost always starts rattling off a hundred questions!
ReplyDeleteHaha that is awesome! I agree - I always have something to talk about. I love how interested people are in learning about NZ - makes me very happy!
DeleteIt's crazy, hey? I've had Zimbabwean a few times, but 98% get English weirdly...
ReplyDeleteHaha I have had south african a few times, but yeah, mostly scottish!
