Without any further ado, I give you.. Laurie!
What's your favorite Christmas memory from your childhood?
My sister's birth!! I always wanted a sister and on December 21 when I was six years old I was standing in our family room in our house in Maine and my Grammy answered the phone and heard what great news?? I had a sister! Yay! She came home from the hospital in a stocking. It was awesome.
What are done unique traditions your family does each year?
We all open presents at my parent's house after a full power breakfast. In that order. We also always take cute photos in front of the Christmas tree.
What is your least favorite thing about the season?
Addressing Christmas cards. And wrapping gifts. I hate wrapping.
Any tips for holiday survival?
Wine. Duh. And lists. Big fan of lists.
What is your favorite Christmas cookie (bonus points for including a recipe)?
Almond sugar cookies. Heavy on the almond. Technically they are called "Spritz" cookies but let's just call them almond sugar cookies. Spritz sounds like something not cookie related if you ask me. Recipe (thanks mom)!
1 1/2 cups butter or margarine
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract (I always make sure I'm in charge of this part and I always add more)
4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
Thoroughly cream butter and sugar. Add egg, milk, vanilla, and almond extract; beat well. Sift flour and baking powder; add gradually to creamed mixture, mixing till smooth. Do not chill. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes.
In our family we normally add some food coloring and twist them into lovely fat candy canes. Cookie baking day can't come soon enough.

What is the first thing you do on Christmas morning?
Pee. After that I hide out at the bottom of the stairs to watch Letty come down and see the presents Santa left for her. Okay I only did this once. But it was pretty cool. Side note, if I could go back in time I would NEVER have given a certain screaming only hour old baby girl a pacifier. Never.
Cookies! See above for my favorite. I always enjoyed the amazing feasts that we had at my aunt and uncles in New York. Lots of wonderful Italian food and appetizers and the like. I didn't take pictures of food back then but I DID take pictures of the booze at their parties. Priorities.
Looking back on it, what was the weirdest/funniest gift you ever wanted as a child?
I always wanted all of the things. I will wave my nerd flag here and say my weirdest (?) gift would have to do with my Laura Ingalls Wilder obsession. Maybe the limited edition china doll. That I still have. In it's original box and tissue paper with certificate of authenticity.
What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Christmas Vacation. Or The Holiday. Vacation because I mean. Obviously. And Holiday because... Jude. Law.
Just kidding. It's cute and fun. Even with Jack Black.
If you could be a reindeer or an elf, which would you be?
Reindeer! Several reasons. One: Only working one day a year. That's great odds. Two: Flying. Self explanatory. Three: I bet they got celebrity status those reindeer. Four: Fun names. I wish to be Prancer. Because it doesn't get more fun than Prancer.
One last old family photo. Because.. I like old family photos.
As always Sarah thanks for having me on your space today! And thank you lovely Oh, The Things I Think readers for putting up with me. And my crazy Christmas obsession.

FYI: with bells on is probably one of my favorite sayings. I use it often in real life.
ReplyDeleteMe too. It has never fit for a Christmas situation until today. So I am happy lol
DeleteThanks for your post. I also hate addressing Christmas cards.
We should add address stamps to our Christmas lists.
DeleteAww look how cute you are! ;) And wow, that's a lot of booze.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was like damn that's a lot! And that is coming from a Kiwi haha
DeleteTheir parties normally have around 75 people... But still. They tie on the dog as they say.
DeleteWrapping sucks! I am pretty sure I need to get an invite to that booze table, I mean "Christmas party". Oh, and that martini glass is sooo going on my list.
